We decided to work with the Pemberton fruit due to the outstanding south-facing site surrounded by forest.
It also holds a close place to our hearts, being the closest vineyard to our favourite family holiday destination in Windy Harbour.
A food-friendly style that will age well, more akin to Bordeaux Blanc, than Sancerre or Marlborough.
Whole bunch pressed and fermented in 50% new French oak barriques, with the remaining portion a high solids qvevri ferment.
Sweet pea flower, lemon blossom, freshly sawn timber.
‘Forest Blanc’ 2020
Mike Bennie / Winefront
“Despite the winery name, this comes from Pemberton. It’s a semillon with sauvignon blanc. Ludicrous value.
Proper stuff. Succulent, lemon-lime, peach juice. almonds and seriously salty-minerally acidity through the wine. Golden colour reflects in good flavour, density, richness, but feels crunchy fresh and glass shard crisp. This beautiful mix of softness, chalky, zingy. Sheesh. This is unreal stuff. It’s such a pleasurable drink.”
